Imphal, January 01: In condemnation of the killing of its former president Chingsubam Akaba by unidentified gunmen right in front of his residential gate on the night of December 31 as well as to mourn for the departed social activist, Meetei Eyek Erol Loinasillon Apunba Lup (MEELAL) has banned organising any sort of entertainment programmes and using loud speakers for election campaign with effect from tomorrow till January 6.Talking to mediapersons at Citizen's Club, Soibam Leikai, MEELAL secretary Ng Yumjao said the ban is being imposed till the performance of the late rites (Lanna Thouram) of Akaba on January 11.The ban would come into immediate effect from tomorrow, he said, while appealing to all the people and organisations not to defy the ban.

Regretting that no one has come out to claim the responsibility for killing despite having served an ultimatum to all concerned for clarification within five days by MEELAL, Yumjao said the killers whether they belong to any underground or overground organisations should have the courage to come out and furnish the reason for the killing.

In connection with the ban imposed, MEELAL vice president Sadokpam Tomba appealed to all concerned to stop hiring out shamiana, sound system, accepting invitation for Shumang leelas, film shooting, etc.

Meanwhile, various social organisations continued to express their condemnation and condolences over the death of Chingsubam Akaba.

Describing his death as a great loss to Manipuri society, secretary in-charge of MAFYF Premjit Kshetrimayum in a statement appealed to the Government to find out the killers and give befitting punishment.

In another statement, president of Kanglei Apunba Ima Yaipha Lup A Premapati Devi urged all concerned to ensure such violent incidents that might cause fear and panic among the people is not repeated.

All Manipur Ethnical Socio-Cultural Organisation (AMESCO), MPP Kakching Kendra, Nupilal and Khongjom War Memorial Society, International Manipuri Mothers' Association, Maichou Ningshing Lup (Khurai), Imphal East Mukta Association, Patsoi Kendra Development Council, etc were also among the social organisations which have come out strongly against the killing and condoled the death of the social activist.
