HC directs state police to produce ANSAM leader within 10 days

Imphal, June 04 2010: The Guahati High Court, Imphal double sitting bench on Friday directed once again the Manipur Director General of Police (DGP) to produce David Choro, All Naga Students' Association Manipur (ANSAM) president within 10 days time before the Court.

DGP Y.Joykumar Singh (IPS) today assured before the Guahati High Court, double sitting bench that all possible steps including declaring David Choro, ANSAM president as proclaimed offender and also for declaring him as a wanted person with prize on his head will be taken up within a week's time counting from today.

Manipur DGP appeared in person before the Court today for rendering necessary assistance in taking steps for producing David Choro.

The court directed once again to produce the ANSAM president on June 16 after considering the DGP's assurance.

The Guahati High Court Imphal double sitting bench comprised Justice T.NK Singh and Justice Mutum BK Singh with the PIL petitioner as RK Joysana Singh represented by advocate M Hemchandra.

The Court directive also stated that Th.Ibohal learned Senior government Advocate shall apprise the court about the action taken by the DGP Manipur and C.Komal Sr.

Central Government Standing Council (CGSC) shall obtain instruction regarding the steps taken up by the National Highway Authority of India Act 1988 and any action taken under the Central of National Highway (Land & Traffic) Act 2002 .

It is also made clear that information received by C.Komal CGSC as per the direction of the Court should be placed before the Court in form of affidavit, added the directive.

The PIL has been filed against the economic blockade imposed by ANSAM along the national highways leading to the state.

Incidentally, the blockade completed 53 days today.
