Imphal, February 01: Naga National Party (NNP) and Chandel Naga People's Organisation (CNPO) have welcomed the extension of the ceasefire agreement between the Government of India and the NSCN (I-M) for another period of six months.

In a statement, NNP president Ng Hungyo appreciated both the Govt of India and the NSCN (I-M) for understanding the interest of the Naga people in particular and all other people in general.

All the Nagas should welcome this gesture and co-operate with a positive approach, he said, while hoping that with the extension of the ceasefire period for another six months, both the parties would move forward more expeditiously and seriously toward resolving the Naga issue.

While welcoming the ceasefire extension, CNPO in a statement, however, said that it should not be merely for the sake of observing ceasefire.
