Imphal, January 30: An IRB personnel who is part of the escort party of INC candidate from Wangkhem AC Keisham Meghachandra sustained injuries when unidentified gunmen fired at them at around 7.30 pm today.

The victim has been identified as Rifleman Thiyam Shakhen (28) of Yairipok Angthaof the 3rd IRB.

He has been admitted to Shija Hospitals with three bullet wounds on his thigh.

The Kumbi residence of CPI candidate and Minister N Mangi was also attacked today at about 8.30 pm, while the family was having dinner.

Police sources said a relative of Mangi suffered injuries in the attack.

Mangi was also present at the time of the attack and significantly he is set to hoist the CPI's flag tomorrow for the second phase polling.

Police said the attackers used guns, grenades and later escaped.
