Imphal, January 28: Reacting to the demand of several organisations to implement Sixth Schedule in the hill districts of Manipur, Lok Sabha MP T Meinya highlighted the difficulties in implementing the Schedule citing lack of consensus among the people of the hill districts.

Speaking at the flag hoisting ceremony of INC candidate in Konthoujam Assembly Constituency Dr Sapam Budhichandra at his residence today, the MP observed that even as some people are in favour of implementing Sixth Schedule in the hill districts, many people are against it.

The lack of consensus among the people might be the reason behind the inability of the successive Governments to act on the issue, he noted.

Taking note of the restriction in registering land against any one in hill districts while a person can register plots in his or her name without any difficulty in the valley, Meinya observed that such a policy was not justifiable.

He stressed on the necessity to implement Land Revenue Act all over the State.

Reiterating that the ensuing elections is a crucial one, the MP called upon the people to exercise their franchise without any fear or apprehension so that the next Government turns out to be a stable one.

Regarding the frequent defections of some political parties from one party to another ahead of the elections, he remarked that such political leaders are only self-seeking individuals.

Asking people not to trust such leaders, the MP appealed to the people to ensure success of all Congress candidates so that a Congress exclusive Government is installed after the elections.

The programme was also attended by many Congress leaders besides thousands of Congress supporters.
