ZSU, ZYF threaten to call indefinite bandh, economic blockade

Tamenglong, June 23 2010: The Zeliangrong Student's Union Tamenglong District, ZSUTD and the Zeliangrong Youth Front, ZYF (AMN) today expressing strong opposition against the decision of the state government to take over the task of maintenance and improvement of National Highway 53 by the State Public Works Department from the Border Road Organisation/ Border Road Task Force.

ZSUTD threaten to call total bandh and indefinite economic blockade in Manipur if the state government did not revoke its decision and hand over back the NH 53 to Border Road Organisation.

While briefing the reporters here at Tamenglong HQs Mathiusang Panmei, Coordinator ZSUTD and Gailiang Gonmei, Coordinating Secretary asserted that NH 39 is shorter then NH 53 but the O Ibobi Singh led SPF government was unable maintained and improved the road.

Why the state government wants to take NH 53 for maintenance and improvement, they questioned and adding that the SFP government is playing tricky to Zeliangrong and tribal people.

'If the state government did not revoke its decision to hand over back the NH 53 to BRO/BRTF the Union is ready to imposed total bandh in the state and indefinite economic blockade', they said.

While the ZYF (AMN) in a press statement issued by Thuiriangpou, General Secretary said that the power frontal organization will not remain mute spectator on the sinister designed of the state government.

The decision nothing but mockery and prejudice altitude of the government over the tribal people, it said.

The ZYF also appeal the Manipur government to revokes its decision to take up the NH 53 under state PWD for the lager interest of the tribal people.

If the state government fails to hear the voice of the tribal people the Zeliangrong people is ready to gear up any form of agitation.

The ZYF (AMN) also appealed to all the public of Naga, civil societies to tighten the spirit of oneness.
