Ukl ZEO office ransacked over BSEM text books row

Ukhrul, Aug 21: Taking up the campaign being launched under the banner of UNC and ANSAM to affiliate schools in the hill districts to NBSE in favour of BSEM to the extreme level, volunteers of TKS ransacked the office of the ZEO Ukhrul and destroyed office properties worth Rs 48,000 last night.

According to Jordan Pheiray, spokesman of ANSAM in Ukhrul district, ransacking of ZEO offices was carried out simultaneously in the four hill districts of Manipur to protest the charges of the Education Minister L Nandakumar and the Government of Manipur that some Naga organisations are working at the behest of the NSCN (I-M).

SDPO of Ukhrul police, Ningshem Vashum said that a case has been registered following the complaint lodged by the ZEO .

The ZEO claimed that assets worth Rs 48,000 were damaged, though police sources estimated it at Rs 20,000 to 25,000. Tight security measures have also been taken up in and around the premises of ZEO office to avoid any unwanted incident, the SDPO added.
