Lamka, February 21: Even as the second batch of polling personnel were dispatched here today, all arrangements to ensure foolproof security in the district, were already in motion in order to ensure a peaceful election.

In addition to the polling personnel who were been dispatched on Monday, additional force for 41 booths was dispatched today while personnel for the remaining booths will move to their designated places of duty tomorrow.

To neutralise any attempts to derail the peaceful conduct of the polls and promote better co-ordination, an exclusive Wireless hotline has been installed at 25 locations besides 4 satellite phones for the first time.

Though the initial estimate of security personnel to be deployed during the poll was 63 companies, after various appraisal and assessment by the civil and military authority the strength of the security personnel to be deployed has been increased manifold.

Details however were not given for obvious reasons.

With all the polling booths considered sensitive, a minimum of 8/9 BSF personnel will be stationed in the 246 booths the district has, while some of the remote and exceptionally sensitive booths will gather a full company of 80-90 personnel.

Three helicopters will be deployed on the day of polling to lift polling officers and their EVMs for 67 remote stations form 10 Helipads; four each in Tipaimukh and Thanlon ACs and 2 in Henglep AC.

Wary of the security scenario due to various accounts of armed men being involved in threatening, intimidating and persecuting the voters, security agencies have already been on alert with Army and Assam Rifles shouldering the responsibility of ensuring safe passage for polling personnel in the interior parts of the district.

In all, morethan 150 civil vehicles were utilized for polling personnel of the 11 sensitive and 16 hyper sensitive booths of Tipaimukh AC, 09 sensitive and 37 hyper sensitive booths of Henglep AC, 23 sensitive and 09 hyper sensitive booths of Thanlon AC, 45 sensitive and 07 hyper sensitive booths of CCpur AC, 28 sensitive and 21 hyper sensitive booths of Saikot AC and 27 sensitive and 13 hyper sensitive booths of Singngat AC.
