Imphal, August 14: The Core Committee of the Manipur People's Party (MPP) has decided to join hands with a group of the National Parties for fighting in the upcoming Parliament election even as the MSCP Heingang Assembly Constituency has been dissolved and merged with the MPP.

Talking to mediapersons in this connection at the MPP office here today, party president Dr L Chandramani explained that the decision to join hand with a group of National parties to fight in the election of the Parliament under certain laid down conditions has been taken in view of the difficulties faced by MPP in taking up the issues of the State without the support of any National party.

Whether MPP would go long with the Congress led UPA at the Centre or BJP led NDA or United National People's Alliance has not yet been finalised, Dr Chandramani said, while informing that talks have already been held at Delhi along with some leaders of the National parties in this regard.

However, he did not divulge information on who are the leaders and the National parties that the MPP had approached.

Dr Chandramani expressed happiness over the remarks made by Opposition leader LK Advani on exclusion of Monika from Olympics Games during a function held at New Delhi in connection with August 13 yesterday.

Dr Chandramani further informed with an eye on the upcoming Parliament election MPP has approved joining of Y Mangi who contested in the last Assembly election on MSCP ticket and many other important leaders and all primary members of the party to MPP consequent to dissolution of MSCP Heingang Unit on July 27 last.

In the Parliament election, MPP would be fielding one candidate from the Inner Manipur Parliamentary Constituency.

But so far no discussion has been held on the Outer Parliamentary Constituency, he added.

Former Union Minister Th Chaoba who was also present at the occasion, while welcoming the merger of MSCP Heingang Unit expressed confidence that MPP would be able to defeat the Congress party in the Parliament election in the light of the prevailing political situation in the State.

So strengthening of the position of MPP along with merger of all the regional parties with MPP is the need of the hour, he said. Party MLA Dr Ng Bijoy also said that with merger of all the regional political parties, MPP would become now become a formidable force to reckon with.

Explaining the reason for the merger of MSCP Heingang Unit with MPP, Y Mangi said the merger decision has been taken to strengthen the position of MPP in taking up the regional issues from time to time.
