Senapati, August 14 (NNN): The All Naga Students' Association, Manipur (ANSAM) has strongly condemned Manipur police for baton-charging Zomi students in Churachandpur district.

ANSAM general secretary Robert T Maram in a statement today while condemning the atrocities meted out by the police on Zomi students, pledged support to cause of Zomi Students Federation (ZSF).

"As a solidarity to the genuine demands of ZSF, ANSAM extends logistic and moral support to the ongoing peaceful agitation at Churachandpur (Lamka) district," declared the ANSAM general secretary.

It is a telling commentary that while the State Government has been asking all to adopt democratic mode of protest it does not hesitate to use force, said Maram and added that the "intolerant attitude of the Government and negligence of the State machineries to address the demand of the tribal people have been vividly exposed by the inhuman and brutal act of lathi charge by the police forces on the pretext of policing the situation".

This suppressive and oppressive action on the student demonstrators on August 10 at Lamka is the common and general method enforced by the police personnel in the past and the present time towards the tribal people, charged Robert while adding that the tribal people for the last many decades, had silently suffered the suppression, oppression and exploitation of the State Government and the domineering majority community.

Robert also conveyed that ANSAM strongly condemns the police action and discriminatory attitude of Thamnapokpi and Moirang residents in collusion with Tiddim Road Transporters Association against tribal civilians of Churachandpur.
