MP Th Chaoba opens PMGSY sores

Imphal, March 14: Lok Sabha MP Th Chaoba has today questioned where the unutilized Rs 8.67 crores Sanctioned by the Centre under PMGSY in 2000-01 has disappeared.

Speaking to newsmen today, the Lok Sabha MP said that under the PMGSY scheme, the Centre had allotted a sum of Rs 40 crores for road constructions in the interior parts of the State.

Of this amount, Rs 31.33 crore was utilised for building roads under the BMS.

However the remaining Rs 8.33 crores is yet to be accounted for, he added.

The MP further said that on March 11 he had raised a question in the Lok Sabha about the fund allotted to the State under the PMGSY.

Answering the question raised by Chaoba, MoS for Rural Development MK Patil informed the House that for the fiscal 2000-01, the Centre had released Rs 40 crores under the PMGSY to construct roads under the BMS.

The State Government informed the Centre that Rs 31.33 crores have been utilised.

Th Chaoba also distributed the answer furnished by the Minister to media persons during the press conference.

The MP said that among the North Eastern States, the Centre pumps in the largest amount of money in Manipur.

Reacting to the statement of N Loken in the Assembly that no fund from PMGSY was diverted to the BMS, Chaoba said that the fund allotted under the PMGSY scheme is to construct roads under the BMS.
