Candidate escapes from kidnappers

Imphal, May 10 2010: A candidate in the forthcoming elections to the Autonomous District Council (ADC) was rescued today by a combined security force at Seijang area under Saikhul police station.

Three armed miscreants attempted to take away the Congress candidate in the ADC election, Paojalet Touthang (55) son of Thongkhopao Touthang of Aijang village from a village road connecting Nungsum and Khongbal Tangkhul village.

He was rescued by a team of combined force of Lamlai police and Assam Rifles.

Reports from police said that a team of Lamlai police led by its OC, Dhanajoy swung into action when they were informed of abducting the Congress candidate by the armed miscreants this morning from the place and conducted frisking and checking operations.

The police team detailing at Napet Palli crossing and conducting frisking and checking operation to the passerby followed after a Bolero vehicle (MN02-9423) moving towards Seijang village in a suspicion manner.

When the police are after the vehicle by firing in the air, troops of 23 Assam Rifles also arrived at the place and joined the police in the rescued of the candidate who was found confined at a house at Seijang village, at about 10 am.

Paojalet is contesting the ADC election at Chingdai ADC constituency of Senapati district.

Relating the incident on which he was attempted to kidnap, Paojalet said that three unknown armed miscreants taken away him to Saijang village.

When he was them, the armed miscreant refused to disclosure who are they and to which group they belong to.

When reached Saijang village, they called out another man informing over phone and they had brought the man.

The man insisted him to go to a hut in a paddy field nearby and have talks on certain matter.

While, Paojalet was convincing the man to know what they wanted from him, another phone called over to an armed man ordered to kill him.

On hearing the word, he ran out of the place in a bid to save his life.

On the way he intercepted with some farmers working in their fields who escorted him upto the Lamlai police station.
