UCM not happy with police action

Imphal, May 06 2010: UCM's planned to organise a public meeting at THAU ground, Thangmeiband today was foiled by the police even as market places in Imphal and its outskirts closed down to stage sit-in protests against Muivah's proposed visit which is still defer owing to the brewing up tense situation in the state.

On the other hand, security in Imphal and other valley districts have been tightened up to prevent any untoward incident as the 48-hour general strike called by the AMUCO started from 6 pm.

The public meeting arranged by the United Committee Manipur at THAU ground was foiled by the police when people from different places start gathering at the venue at about 11 am before chief functionaries of the organizing body arrived.

Police collected all the materials at the venue site in a 407 truck and carried away to thwart the gathering of people after though a heated arguments between the police and people coming up to attend the meeting erupted.

Later, briefing media persons at the UCM office after the police foiled the meeting Yumnamcha Dilipkumar termed the police action as heating innocent while they could deal with the culprits.

He also fixed the responsibility of protecting the territorial boundary of the state reiterating that government of India had given permission to Muivah's visit in the state without the prior consent of the government of Manipur because of the hidden political agenda behind the visit.

Muivah is not coming to his native village but for campaign to achieve his aspiration of forming a greater Nagaland has been very clear, he observed strongly charging the government of India of spewing venoms to the people of the state living together in harmony since time immemorial.

"Muivah's visit intense to build up a campaign for disintegration of Naga inhabitant areas of Manipur to form a greater Nagaland which people of Manipur are objecting right from the very beginning," he said.

He also appealed the people of all section to beware of remour and take caution while talking communally inflicting words taking into account the tense situation and the prevailing situation reminding that government of India is waiting to take advantage of the communal clash.

UCM is arising up not against any individuals but against the government of India.

Any untoward incident out of it will be the sole responsibility of the Government of India, Dilipkumar said.

Government of India taken up the step to bring an end peace talks with the NSCN (IM) or to suppress Muivah forever, he observed urging the people not to catch in the trap of the hidden agenda of the GOI.

Meanwhile, market places various places across the valley districts remained closed for the day as women vendors staged sit-in protest at their respective market sheds.

Lamlong Bazar in Imphal east wore a deserted look as all shops and other establishments there closed down during the protest.

The same protests were also carried out at Moirang Bazar and other places also, reports said.
