Imphal, February 06: The MPP president O Joy Singh, has clarified that the Manipur People's Party, MPP, did not welcome the forthcoming elections, due to be held on February 14 and 21 next.

Speaking at the Manipur Press Club during a meet the press programme, O Joy said with the June 18 incident, a new political chapter had been opened in Manipur, and the MPP did not want hasty elections.

He stated that as the elections were being held at a time when the minds of the public were still unsettled, no worthwhile chance was likely to be brought.

He added that no party was likely to get a majority in the elections.

Blaming the lack of faith among the people in the political process for many of the problems faced in the state, he said the deterioration of political life was the fault of some political gangs which had converted politics into a business.

This has led to misgovernance, which in turn caused the public to lost faith in politics, he said.
