Rahul Gandhi apprised of Manipur situation

Imphal, June 03 2010: Colonel H Lokendra (Rtd) and Major Y Angamba (Rtd) today met AICC General Secretary, Rahul Gandhi at 10 Janpath, New Delhi and apprised him of the present situation of Manipur.

Col (Rtd) Lokendra and Major (Rtd) Y Angamba narrated the worsening situation of Manipur to Rahul Gandhi.

They told him about the situation which resulted in the 54 day-old economic blockade on NH 39 and 53 imposed by Naga bodies and the intended visit of NSCN (IM) General Secretary Th Muivah to Naga inhabited areas including his birth place Somdal in Manipur.

Talking to this newspaper, Col (Rtd) Lokendra informed that they pointed out to Rahul Gandhi about the common people's plight due to the sky-high prices of essential commodities in the state.

Absence of concrete steps to address the situation by the State Government and inaction on the part of the Government of India to the situation were also brought into notice of Rahul Gandhi.

They were part of the team of Senior Citizens of Manipur who recently called on the Union Home Secretary, GK Pillai in Delhi.

The two stayed back in Delhi to meet Rahul Gandhi, AICC, General Secretary, etc.

AICC, General Secretary Rahul Gandhi gave them a patient hearing on the matter and assured them of studying the issue minutely.
