Makru bridge ready for traffic on NH-53

Imphal, July 27: Vehicular movement on the Imphal-Jiribam road will resume from tomorrow onwards as repairing work of Makru bridge was finalised today.

The repairing was necessitated after the bridge dipped slightly from its original position due to loaded trucks plying over the ageing bridge yesterday.

IGP (LO) A Romenkumar personally assessed the repairing work carried out by BRTF personnel, said informed source while adding that around 60 vehicles had to be halted from joining the vehicle convoy yesterday and are currently stationed at Jiribam.

The vehicles comprise of a betel nut load, one carrying bakery items, two construction materials, six poultry feeds, four cold drinks, 20 urea carriers and one each carrying fuel and LPG.

According to reports culled from Jiribam police station five passenger buses have arrived at the sub-division adding that under security escort the 60 trucks are scheduled to leave for Imphal.
