Truck burnt for defying eco blockade

Imphal, June 27: A DI 207 Tata Mobile truck was set ablaze by suspected blockade supporters today at about 5.15 am at a spot between New Karong and Bakho located about 3 kms from Senapati district headquarters.

Talking to The Sangai Express OC of Senapati police Inspector R Jonah, said that the truck was intercepted by suspected blockade supporters today at about 5.15 am.

On immediate receipt of the report, police with Fire Brigade personnel rushed to the spot and managed to put out the fire, said the OC adding that though the front portion of the vehicle has been extensively burnt, they were able to stop the fire from spreading to the rear side of the vehicle.

The OC informed that the DI truck was carrying goods including betel leaves which were unloaded by bandh supporters from passenger buses and kept at a hotel named Kuku hotel located between Chukumi and Tadubi.

The truck was discreetly loaded with the unloaded goods most probably this morning and was making its way through NH-39 when it was intercepted by suspected blockade supporters and set ablaze, he added.

Timely action by the police and the Fire Brigade saved the truck from further damages.

The registration number of the truck is MN 1K-4266.The truck has been retrieved by the police and is presently kept at Senapati police station.

The OC further said that when the police team arrived at the scene of the arson no one was present and added that the driver identified as one Ingo has left for Imphal.

The exact identity of the owner of the vehicle is yet to be established though it could be one Maibam Premi, added the police officer.
