Imphal, August 25 2010: The State Cabinet has approved relieving the Deputy Commissioners posted in the hill districts as chairmen of DRDAs and to hand over the same to the respective chairmen of the District Councils.

Talking to mediapersons in this regard, spokesperson of the SPF Government N Biren informed that a meeting of the State Cabinet held this afternoon with Chief Minister in the chair discussed in detail the devolution of departmental power to the District Councils.

Though the discussion covered various departments including Agriculture, Art and Culture, Adult Education, Corporation, Consumer Affairs, Food and Public District, Education (S), Finance, Fisheries, Forest, Health and Family Welfare, Horticulture & Soil Conservation, Science & Technology, Social Welfare, Small Town, Transport, Tribal Development, Veterinary and Animal Husbandry and Youth Affairs and Sports, a final decision is yet to be taken.

So, the discussion will continue tomorrow as well.

The Cabinet has however approved that the Chairmen of the respective District Councils should be in charge of the DRDA.

Acting on the instruction of the Centre, today's Cabinet meeting has also approved setting up of a engineering cell in MOBC Department and appointment of six other Engineering staff.
