Imphal, April 24: Police Commandos gunned down three suspected UGs at Langol Games Village under Lamphel Police Station at around 6.30 pm today.

Three pistols were also reportedly recovered from the possession of the slain UG suspects.

According to police, all the slain UG suspects appear to be Muslim.

One shot dead : A 52 year old man shot at by some unidentified persons at Lilong Chajing at about 10.30 pm yesterday succumbed on the way to RIMS.

The deceased is identified as Haorungbam Rabi (52) s/o H Achou of Chajing Konjeng Leikai.

He was reportedly called out by two unknown youths asking for the way to Hiyangthang.

He was hit by a bullet on the chest.

With the family members refusing to claim the corpse, a joint action committee has been constituted against the killing.

The Lilong road was also blocked.

Meanwhile, the proscribed KCP (Mobile Task Force) has claimed its hand in killing Rabi.

A press release issued by KCP (MTF) chief commander City Meitei accused Rabi of being the right hand of KCP (Shengoi).

City Meitei further accused Shengoi group of not only defying KCP (MTF)'s ban on issuing press statement by any KCP group but also claiming to be the only genuine KCP.

Any one standing against unification of KCP groups and working for KCP (Shengoi) will meet the same fate as Rabi, it warned.

It further alleged that Shengoi has been changing his name from Noyon to Laba and then finally to Shengoi only to engage himself in various clandestine activities.

Disclosing that the KCP (Shengoi) group and his men are using the BJP office for discussing their activities, City Meitei warned that all those involved in such arrangement will be identified and punished accordingly.

'Slain man was brick layer' : Even as police have been claiming that one of the two youths shot dead by a combined force at about 6 pm yesterday at Wakha near Nongmaiching Hills was a KLA cadre, the other has turned out to be civilian, a brick layer by profession.

While the suspected KLA cadre has been identified as Pechimayum Ajitkumar (26) s/o Achou of Khonghampat Awang Leikai under Sekmai police station, the brick-layer was one Khangembam Komol (23) s/o Thoi of Sanjenbam Shabal Leikai under Lamlai police station.

According to Imphal East commando OC Kh Manihar, it has been 3/4 months since Ajitkumar left home.

Since the last few days, combined security force inclusive of Assam Rifles and BSF has been search operations in different parts of the State and such search operations will continue in the coming days, disclosed the OC while appealing to the public for cooperation.

On the other hand, a joint action committee has been constituted in connection with the killing of Komol.

Demanding commensurate punishment to the security personnel involved in the killing of innocent Komol, hundreds of people marched from Palace Compound towards the Chief Minister's official residence taking a memorandum with them.

However, they were blocked by police at Sanjenthong.

Later, a five member team of the JAC submitted the memorandum to the Chief Minister through the CM's secretary.

The main points of the memorandum were institution of a judicial enquiry into the killing of Komol and payment of Rs 5 lakhs as ex-gratia to the family of Komol.

According to JAC representatives, Komol was a humble brick-layer who was also the bread-winner of the family.

He was married and had a child.

After fetching medicines for his ailing child and giving Rs 200 in cash to his wife last afternoon, Komol went to his work place, conveyed the JAC representatives.

It was only at about 9 this morning when the family members and local people came to know that Komol had been shot dead at Wakha.

They further alleged that Komol was picked up by commandos from Moirang Kampu last evening.
