Ukhrul, January 24: Castigating the Congress for its failure to stick to its stated principle, around six thousand primary members of Chingai Block Congress Committee (BCC) and DCC delegate members have resigned from the party.

A written submission to this effect has also been submitted to the president of DCC.

During a press conference held today, Chehan Kumrah Secretary, Dickson Ngalung DCC Treasurer, L Seth Election Commissioner and Anam Zimik exchief agent along with 36 executive said that the executive members of BCC, delegates members and over 6000 primary members have lost complete faith in the integrity and sincerity of the MPCC (I) and are resigning from the Congress party for good.

They announced that they have thrown their weight behind Independent candidate Dr Kashim Ruivah.

A Memorandum of Understanding in the presence of Z Shangam, the chief agent was signed towards this end.

Stating that they endorse the stand of the United Naga Council and the Tangkhul Naga Long, the defected Congress workers said that Dr Ruivah would emerge victorious in the election.

The former Congress workers further said that resigning from BCC is also in line with the declaration of the UNC in connection with the forthcoming 9th Assembly election.

The press conference was held at the residence of Khasim Ruivah.
