Imphal, April 19: The Naga People's Organization has questioned the decision of the United Naga Council to ask all the Nagas to vote for independent candidate Mani Charenamei in the Lok Sabha elections which is scheduled to be held tomorrow.

Answering to queries from The Sangai Express NPO president Dilli Mao questioned whether the call of the UNC has the mandate of the Naga public and further asked whether the public was consulted before the support call was issued.

Speaking further, Mao asked whether tribe leaders were consulted before the decision to call for the support of the independent candidate.

He further said that call of the UNC not to support candidates of the Congress, BJP, JD (U), MPP and others were not in the resolutions passed by the UNC.

On the boycott of the 1997 and 1999 Parliamentary election under the theme "We want solution not election," Mao clarified that the boycott call was given by the Naga Hoho and not by Naga organisations based in Manipur.
