Ministers tour affected areas, distribute relief

Imphal, August 18: Irrigation and Flood Control Minister N Mangi accompanied by Deputy Commissioner of Bishnupur district L Lakher and Additional Chief Engineer of IFCD today visited flood ravaged villages of Kumbi Awang Khunou, Wapokpi, Borayangbi, Tangjeng and Napet and distributed essential commodities.

The items distributed are 55.5 quintals of rice, 5.55 quintals of dal and 124 quintals of salts.

A mobile medical camp was also conducted under the initiative of CMO in Kumbi areas.

Some houses of Napet, Tangjeng and Kumbi were still under water.

Many residents have fled to elevated areas with their properties, livestock and cattle.

The minister put the estimated cost for repairing the damaged river bank at Rs 1.65 crores.

According to the Deputy Commissioner 1200 houses of Kumbi, 1150 in Moirang and 750 in Nambol areas were damaged beyond redemption.

Minister Health Dr Chaltolien Amo and Director of Health Services on August 16 also visited flood affected areas of Lilong, Thoubal, Kakching, Khangabok, Hiyanglam, Sekmaijin, Mayang Imphal and Samurou and conducted medical camps in the areas.

The minister further instructed all doctors and medical staffs of various community health centres to remain at their place of postings to meet any health related eventualities.
