Imphal, December 10: Reiterating its commitment to support the motion for repealing Armed Forces Special Powers Act, 1958 when the report of the Justice Jeevan Reddy Committee is tabled for discussion in the Parliament, party MLA Meinam Bhorot has demanded that the Act should be scrapped immediately as it has failed to serve its purpose.

Speaking at the inaugural function of a one-day State level Yuva Sammelan held at the Nityaipat Chuthek office complex of State BJP unit here today, Bhorot said instead of countering the insurgency problem, the Act has caused more suffering to the people at the hands of the security forces.

Apart from the commitment of the BJP to do away with this anti-people legislation, Central leaders of the party would do the needful so that the report of Justice Jeevan Reddy Committee is tabled for discussion in the Parliament, he assured.

The Sammelan held with BJP Yuva Morcha president MP Dharmendra Pradhan as chief guest recommended to the State Government for formulating a 'Manipuri Youth Policy' or 'Youth Vision: Manipur 2006' focusing on vital issues like youth and power, gender justice, youth health, youth and moral education and youth and social well-being.

The Sammelan also resolved to urge the Government for implementing a new National Construction Core scheme for youth who are between the age group of 10 to 19. In his address, Bhorot noted that the restriction imposed on BJP is no more and though it had suffered some setbacks in the past, BJP looks at that phase as a testing time.

While asserting that there is the sign of presence of 'blessing politics' and 'political robots' in Manipur, Bhorot dissuaded BJP youth leaders not to indulge in such degrading politics and allow them to be remote-controlled.

Launching scathing attack on the SPF Government, Bhorot alleged that Rs 500-Rs 800 crores from out of the total plan amount of the State have been pocketed by Chief Minister O Ibobi and his Council of Ministers for their personal ends.

He said although the construction of a tiny over bridge has taken more time citing undue interference some quarters, the Government, nevertheless, continues to have dealing with such anti-social elements.

MP Tapir Paul said Manipuri youths are taking up arms and going to the jungle to fight guerilla warfare a result of the debilitating effect of the administration of the Ibobi Ministry.

Charging that sacred meetings are being held ahead of the forthcoming election, the MP further pledged to extend every possible support to the public demand for removal of AFSPA and take up the issue in the Parliament.

Chief guest of the function MP Dharmendra Pradhan also assured support to the demand for repealing AFSPA.

State BJP unit president H Borbabu, general organising secretary V Satish and party's co-ordiantor for Manipur and Nagaland Avinash Koli were also among those who were present and spoke at the occasion.
