Imphal, October 05: Citing the Supreme Court ruling which guaranteed 50 percent reservation for reserved category leaving apart the other 50 percent for the unreserved category and other legislations, the All Manipur Students' Union (AMSU) asserted that Manipur University, being a Central university, should follow Central norms in the recruitment process.

A press release issued by the student body alleged that the act of forwarding a written appeal to the Centre seeking to follow the State Reservation Policy in Manipur University after taking a Cabinet decision by the State Government was an unfortunate step for all the people.

Concerning the current issue of reservation in Manipur.

University, AMSU observed that the demand of some student organisations to follow 31 percent reservation is against the interest of the State.

It further asserted that the Government should make preparations to set up a State University in order to avoid reservation problems like the present one.

While demanding that the MU authority should act according to the Central University Act, AMSU appealed to all concerned not to go at the behest of politicians or individuals with vested interests.

It further appealed to all educational institutions, teachers and school van drivers to continue normal class.
