'Shot' in the eye victim; Family reels under financial strain

New Delhi, September 03 2009: The family of Naorem Prakash, who was hit in the eye by a projectile during the ongoing July 23 BT Road agitation on August 6, is reeling under a huge financial strain as the first two operations have already cost them Rs 3.5 lakhs AIIMS.

Naorem Prakash, a Class XII student of South Pole Public School, Canchipur, sustained a serious injury on the right eye during a police crackdown during an agitation at Langthabal.

After initial treatment here, he was shifted to AIIMS, New Delhi, as his condition turned serious.

Prakash has undergone two operations, one in the eye and another on the brain, costing the family Rs 3.5 lakhs.

There are internal damages on the brain.

Two more operations are yet to be conducted, disclosed family members, during an interaction with some visitors to the hospital today.

Prakash's father is a truck driver and the family received about Rs 60,000 as aid from the public.

The truck owner had arranged all the money but the family had to surrender documents of their properties to him.

The young child is presently staying at Room number 5001 of the Neuro Surgery Ward of AIIMS.
