Imphal, July 02: Thingujam Sanjit alias Nanao of Tera Loukham Leikai who was admitted to Shija Hospital for treatment after being assaulted by two individuals including a personnel of 3 IRB near Sagolband Tera Wangthonbi at around 9.30 pm on June 29 succumbed to his injuries at around 9 am today.

On hearing the news of his death, infuriated local Meira Paibis and Club members blocked the National Highway-53 in protest.

Wooden barricades were put up and no vehicles were allowed to pass through.

An emergency meeting was also convened by the JAC Against the Brutal Assault of Shri Th Sanjit (Nanao) Singh at Sagolband Loukham Leirak Club to discuss the issue.

After the meeting, the JAC has submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister demanding the Government to pay Rs 5 lakhs as compensation to the bereaved family within seven days, a suitable job to some of the family members, termination of the involved IRB personnel from service and to ensure such unfortunate incident do not recur in the future.

Following the assurance given by the Chief Minister of doing the needful and request for giving 20 days time as initiating up legal proceeding against the accused IRB personnel would time some time, the JAC agreed to take back the body which has cremated by the bereaved family members.
