Home coming for �rescued' kids

Imphal, August 31: Twenty-two children of the State trafficked to Chennai with the �promise' of providing them free education there, rescued by Chennai district administration and Childline Chennai, have been brought to Imphal safely at about 1.30 pm today.

A team of Chennai police together with three members of the Child Welfare Committee, Chennai escorted the 22 children till Guwahati yesterday.

From there, the children were brought home by two members of Child Welfare Committee, Chandel and a parent of one the children today.

Three members of Child Welfare Committee Chennai��J Soumdaradgai, K Sokkappam and M Thamu Seelam Samraj also came to Imphal together with the children.

The children and the officials who came in an inter-State bus were received by Childline Imphal Coordinator Bala Lisham, officials of Social Welfare Department, chairperson of Child Welfare Committee Chandel Shyamnaidar Tongtang and Systematic Village School, Reach-M, Nungourok Pallel in front of Hotel Imphal today.

Soon the children were taken to Pallel by members of CWC Chandel, Reach-M and Systematic Village School.

The 22 children belong to Moreh ward nos 1 and 2. They were taken to Chennai by a Pastor named Jou with the false promise of providing free education there in June this year.

The children were then taken to Life Trust, a children home run by an NGO not recognised by the Government.

The children home is located at Kanchipuram, about 40 kms from Chennai.

Besides being not recognised by the Government, the children has not adequate compound and is filthy.

Moreover, the children staying there are not given education properly nor the children are fed well.

Altogether 150 children including the 22 children from Manipur were rescued by authority from the home.
