Imphal, March 31: The forthcoming 14th Lok Sabha election slated to be held on April 20 and 26 for the two State seats is a very crucial one as it would provide an opportunity for Manipur to take a new step into the National level politics, Manipur People's Party (MPP) president and MLA O Joy has stated.

Addressing a press conference at the party office today, Joy predicted that regional forces would play a decisive role in the election.

It is for the sake of strengthening regional politics that Dr Nimaichand Luwang of MPP gave way to the FPM and agreed to support Dr L Chandramani of Federal Party of Manipur (FPM) as the consensus candidate of the Opposition alliance DPA, he clarified.

He further claimed that the MPP decided to field Kim Gangte of MPP from Outer Parliamentary Constituency with the primary objective of strengthening the regional forces at the Outer Parliamentary Constituency as well.

None of the MPs from Manipur, with exception Yumnam Yaima and Kim Gangte did anything for the people during their tenure in the highest decision making body of the country.

Joy opined.

Reacting to a comment passed by BJP candidate and former MP Th Chaoba who had said that there is no role for regional party at the Centre, Joy asserted that there cannot be any Government at the Centre without the contribution of the regional parties.

Such comments are being made by those persons who do not politics and consider changing political allegiance like changing inner garment, Joy alleged.

Directing his tirade against the ruling SPF Govt, Joy accused the Govt of encouraging the security forces in unleashing reign of terror among the people.

Giving votes to SPF candidates would only mean digging up one's own grave, he stated.

MPP's candidate for the Outer seat Kim Gangte, who was also present during the press conference said that she had been elected to the Parliament only for 10 months.

Due to time constraint, she could not do many things for the development of the people inspite of her desire.

Nonetheless, DDK Imphal had been upgraded during her time, she claimed.
