Imphal, March 30: CPI national general secretary AB Bardhan today accused the BJP of belittling the important issue of territorial integrity of Manipur by trying to influence the NSCN (I-M) and receive their help in the BJP's effort to spread its dominance in the whole of North Eastern region.

Addressing a reception function held in his honour at Irawat Bhavan soon after his arrival here today, Bardhan said that after the BJP-led NDA Government at the Centre has been able to establish its hold over Nagaland and Arunachal Pradesh with the help of NSCN (I-M), it is trying to do the same in Manipur too.

Recalling that the people of Manipur have strongly opposed the move made by NSCN (I-M) and the NDA Government to disintegrate the State, Bardhan maintained that CPI had also objected to such a move.

CPI considers the preservation of the territorial integrity of Manipur as its first important issue and all efforts of the party would be concentrated on countering the evil designs of the BJP to set up a Government in Manipur, he said, adding that it was only for the sake of safeguarding the territorial integrity of Manipur that five Minister of CPI have joined hands in forming the SPF Government.

Even if the CPI has not been able to fulfillment all the aspiration of the people, it has always been trying its level best, Bardhan said.

Fielding Dr M Nara Singh from Inner Manipur Parliamentary Constituency in the coming Lok Sabha election too is being done on this point, he said, asserting that Dr Nara is a clean and upright person against who no political party has ever dared to raise a finger.

As a matter of fact, Bardhan hastened to add.

CPI has put up many party candidates in the election this time so that the Left parties can have a sizable presence on the floor of the Parliament could be augmented.

Speaking at the function, Dr M Nara Singh, who would be contesting in the 14th Lok Sabha election for the Inner seat, informed that he would be filing his nomination paper tomorrow.

Election campaign of the party would also be commencing from tomorrow at about noon at INA Complex at Moirang and Thoubal Mela ground.
