Imphal, July 27: Three student bodies of the State, AMSU, DESAM and MSF have written to the UN Secretary General highlighting the suffering of the people due to the economic blockade imposed by ANSAM since midnight of June 19.In the representation despatched to the UN Secretary General, the student bodies said that ever since the economic blockade was imposed, the prices of all essential commodities, including rice, cooking gas and petrol have sky rocketed and added that the stock of life saving drugs is also running low.

Despite repeated appeals from various sections of society in Manipur, Nagaland, Tripura, and Assam, there is no indication that ANSAM is going to ease its stand on the highways, said the student bodies.

It is also known to all that ANSAM is imposing the blockade at the behest of the NSCN (IM), said the representation and added that the IM group enjoys the patronage of the Indian Government as both are currently involved in a peace talk.

Despite the security provided on the highways, the drivers are still not safe from the blockade supporters who attack the vehicles.
