Imphal, July 23: Wakat Meephams were held at different parts of the State today in protest against kidnapping of young children for recruitment as child soldiers and the apprehension being caused in the minds of the people.

At Sega Road Thouda Bhabok Leikai, the local Meira Paibis joined hands with the local club Chaokhat Thourang Kanglup in demonstrating against the kidnapping of young children.

Around 400 people , mostly women who were accompanied their children participated in the demonstration.

Placards with slogans like 'Stop kidnapping children at once', 'They are also like your own children' , 'We want peace', etc were used during the demonstration.

At Chingmeirong area, half of the National highway 39 as closed down to stage a Wakat Meepham jointly by the students, their guardians and teachers of the schools located in and around the area.

At the ground of Khurai Popular High School, the Meira Paibis of the area staged a similar demonstration denouncing kidnapping of young children and recruiting them as child soldiers by some militant groups.

Students and teachers of Universal Students' Academy, Singjamei also staged a Wakat Meepham in front of their school gate today.

In front of Chingmeirong Oil Depot, members of All Manipur Petroleum Tankers' Drivers Welfare Union demonstrated against kidnapping of young children by militants.

Similar protest demonstration was also reportedly staged at Lilong.
