Meetings held to chalk out plans

Imphal, August 17: For the second consecutive day, State Relief Committee today convened a meeting at Mini conference hall with Chief Secretary as chairman to ascertain progress of various departments in assisting flood affected people in the four valley districts.

IFCD have repaired or closed breaches in twenty separate banks of Imphal, Iril, Thoubal and Sekmai river while works to close new breaches along the Imphal, Manipur and Nambol river banks, said a press release of the Committee.

Food and Civil Supplies Deptt have also released over 2000 quintals of rice, dal and salt for worst affected areas of Thoubal district, 1035 for Imphal East, 1120 for Imphal East and 139.10 for Bishnupur district.

The meeting also decided to obtain satellite imagery of flood ravaged parts of the State.

According to estimates at the meeting, Department of Vety and Animal Husbandry Services have identified 44 villages of I-E and West districts where approximately 25, 000 catties and poultry livestock have been affected and special teams deputed to evacuated the same at the safer place.

The Department have also procured medicines worth Rs 30,800 for emergency use in relief camps for the affected animals, added the release.

Public Health Engineering Department also distributed drinking waters at Ucheckon Khunou, Kongba Kshetri Leikai and Kongba Nongthongbam Leikai today with more villages to be covered tomorrow.
