Imphal, September 15: Reaffirming commitment of the SPF Government to the development of education in both the hills and the valley districts of the State, Education Minister L Jayantakumar has categorically stated that the conflagration of Government schools in the hills as claimed by ANSAM is beyond expectation that such a union for the welfare of the student community should move an unprecedented violent step.

In a statement made available to the press, the Minister observed that whatever misunderstanding or demands ANSAM might have, may be settled through dialogue with the Government without pre-conditions, for which the door is wide-open.

However, demolition of public properties for any petty matter, which can be solved though dialogue, is intolerable and the Government cannot stand still as a silent spectator.

There should be no compromise with respect to education that knows no caste and creed, and boundaries of culture.

Targeting school buildings for any reason, either justified or unjustified is nothing but a pseudo culture for eliminating of its own culture, the Education Minister said, adding that the Government is firmly committed to protect public properties with the co-operation of the people.

The Minister observed that our society being a pluralistic one is not an easy task to fulfil all the demands by a section of the society lest it may affect the interest of other communities.

As far as practicable, it is tirelessly and ceaselessly endeavouring for reflection/inclusion of the ideal lives of persons of different communities and their socioculture and economy in the syllabus and curriculum prescribed by the Board of Secondary Education, Manipur in addition to the present inclusion of the same in the text books.

As such it is open for option of offering of any recognised Major Indian Language as prescribed by the Board which is adopted in line of National Policy.

Further reacting to the version of banning Hindi language vis-a-vis Meitei Mayek as felt by ANSAM, the Education Minister clarified that there is the question of neither banning nor enforcement of any language of a community on the part of the Government.

On the commitment of the Government, the Education Minister elaborated education in parti cular is a challenging task and the SPF Government is committed to achieve the National Goal of Universalisation of Elementary Education (UEE), which has been accepted since 1950, and equalisation of educational opportunities with emphasis on the removal of disparities by attending to the specific needs.

Moreover, it is a must to ensure that our children irrespective of caste and creed are provided with education in an appropriate and free barrier environment with support services.

As such, moral support of the local people is badly needed due to the fact that most of the schools in both the hills ad valley are community based and that they were initially established through community efforts and taken over by the Government later on, the Minister pointed out.

The Minister further explained that depending upon the existing institutions, the level of the epidemic of mushrooming of differing schools, and intellectual cultures as well as the need to avoid overlapping of responsibilities, the present Govt is constraint to take up community-based-education for better management of school administration to provide effective education thereby resulting in formation of School Management Development Committee, which shares school administration and looks after the welfare of the school.

With an effort to bridge the lacunae of school infrastructures in the hills and make it parallel with those in the valley, upgradation of school infrastructures such as academic building, libraries, science equipments, etc in both hills and valley is now in progress with provision for providing teacher quarters and student-hostels so as to bring closer relation amongst teachers, students and communities under various Centrally sponsored schemes.

In addition, modern worlds computer application has been introduced to the students through CLASS projects and its subsequent scheme ICT so as to include in the Global map of computer science technology, he added.
