Imphal, August 11: The Assembly today unanimously agreed to drop the privilege case taken up against Justice Surjamani and Justice BB Deb.

The State Assembly had taken up the privilege case against the two Justices after the Chief Minister was summoned by Justice Surjamani to the Court in connection with a contempt case even as the Monsoon session of the Assembly was in progress last year on July 24.During the evening session of the Assembly today, Speaker TN Haokip informed the House that Justice Surjamani had given his reply to the House on March 4 this year while Justice BB Deb had tragically passed away on March 13 this year.

O Joy who had moved the privilege motion said that the reply of Surjamani leaves a lot to be desired as the Justice in his reply had said that he (Surjamani) is in the right.

However the Justice had also asked to forgive him. Joy said that he is for dropping the privilege case but cautioned against taking it as a reference point.

Dr Nimaichand Luwang said that though the Justice is still maintaining that he was right, the matter may be dropped in the interest of the public.
