UCM urges Advani to convene meeting

Imphal, September 09: Highlighting the atrocities committed by armed men on the National Highways and the imposition of illegal taxes on vehicles from Manipur, the United Committee, Manipur has despatched a memorandum to the Deputy Prime Minister urging him to convene an emergency meeting of the Chief Ministers of Nagaland and Manipur and representatives of UCM with the Deputy Prime Minister in the chair at Imphal on September 15.The memorandum said that if the meeting fails to materialize then the UCM would soon launch a series of democratic agitation.

UCM also highlighted the ugly Sept 5 episode at Piphema to the Deputy Prime Minister.

UCM has also asked all to abide by the call issued by them not to travel or take the NH-39 route and pass through Nagaland.

In a statement, the Committee said that anyone violating the boycott call of the highway should be held responsible for any untoward incident.

UCM has also convened a public meeting on September 11 at 11 am at GM Hall.
