Locals round up five UG cadres

Imphal, August 08: Five activists of the proscribed KCPMC (Lamyanba group) were rounded up by local people Nambol Khabi and surrounding villages on suspicion of attempting to kidnap children.

After some thrashing, they were later handed over to Bishnupur police.

One of them sustained severe injuries on the head and was admitted to RIMS.

Briefing media persons later in the afternoon, SP Bishnupur K Jayenta stated all the five kidnappers are activists of the KCP-MC (Lamyanba group).

On being informed about the local people nabbing five individuals at about 10 am today, he along with a commando team went to Nambol Khabi.

There the five accused were handed over to police, Jayenta said.

They have been identified as Kamthang (20) son of Letthang of Henglep, Laishram Samananda (19) son of L Hegel of Phumlou Mamang Leikai, Ningthoujam Thomas (23) son of N Mangi of Nungoo Mamang Leikai, Sugnu, Tongbram Nilakamal (19) son of Noren of Khumbong Makha Leikai and Sgt Maj Thangjangam Haokip (21) son of Nehkham of Kotlien.

Out of the five individuals, Kamthang sustained injuries on the head after being thrashed by the local people.

He was first given first aid at Bishnupur district hospital before being referred to RIMS.

During preliminary investigation, it has been learnt that Sgt Maj Thangjangam Haokip was leading the UG activists and they were bound for Henglep today.

However, the SP refused to comment on whether they were involved in kidnapping kids in kidnapping children or not saying that there is no clear cut case as it is under investigation.

According to local people, three of the UGs were rounded up at Khabi Mamang Leikai and the other two at Khabi Maning Leikai near Konthoujam Makha Junior High School.
