Truck torched on NH-39

Imphal, October 01: A truck carrying edible oil was torched by some people who claimed themselves to be supporters of the ongoing boycott of NH 39 by UCM at Charhajhar Nepali colony under Sapermeina Police Station this afternoon.

Informations culled from the site of the incident said that the truck (AS-01J-7921) carrying edible oil was coming from Siliguri when around five blockade supporters stopped and set it on fire near the Nepali colony.

However, before much harm could be done villagers came out and put off the fire.

The windshield and some of the seats in the front cabin have been destroyed.

On hearing the report, personnel of 21 Assam Rifles at Motbung rushed to the site and managed to nab two of the persons allegedly involved in the incident after a hot chase, though the other three escaped.

The two persons in the custody of AR are identified as Laishangbam Ibohaibi (29) and Aheibam Herojit (19), both of Motbung.
