Imphal, July 23: Amid tight security arrangement provided by MR, IRB and police commando personnel, over 50 goods-laden trucks arrived at Imphal today afternoon on the NH-39 route.

Even though, there is no report of blockade related incidents in the Manipur stretch of the highway suspected blockade supporters broke windshields of many trucks in between Dimapur and Kohima, said a source.

The vehicles were escorted by personnel of Nagaland police from Dimapur till Khuzama gate yesterday night from where the Manipur police took over the task of security cover till the State capital.

The miscreants reportedly hurled stones and used catapult to cause disruption, said the source while adding that one driver suffered catapult wound on the forehead.

The vehicles which arrived at Imphal around 2.30 pm today include 22 oil tankers, five LPG carriers while the remaining ones are loaded with consumer items.

Among the trucks escorted back to Imphal included one which was previously stranded at Senapati area.

On the other hand the number of vehicles awaiting restoration of surface communication on NH-53 has swelled to 45.The vehicles most of which are goods-laden trucks are currently stuck at Jiribam due to the destruction of Irang bridge district by ANSAM volunteers some days back.
