Imphal, August 18: Even though parts of valley areas are still lying under water overall flood situation is vastly improved but reports of landslides in hilly region start to trickle in.

In several places relief camps have opened to provide medical and veterinary requirements of flood affected people and animals.

Village chief of Twisomyang (Mate) village of Sadar Hills (East) expressing remorse at concentration of State Government machineries in relief and rescue operations at valley areas only while ignoring the plight of hill villagers said over 10 paris of farmland in the village has been destroyed due to landslide following torrential rain.

Drawing Government attention on the gravity of the situation demanded that officials concerned be deputed to assess and provide relief to the affected families.

Some parts of valley may finally heave a sign of relief due to stoppage of rainfall for a day or two but residents of low lying areas especially in the periphery of Loktak Lake and those where breaching occurred still continues to struggle.

Most villages of Thanga are lying under water and paddy fields inundated due to steady flow of river water into Loktak Lake resulting in gradual rise of water level.

Pisciculturists of Waithou area are also hit hard by the recent flood with several lakhs of fishes streaming out to open water following breach of Thoubal river banks.

Some organization flayed Ministers/MLAs for not providing adequate relief materials to the affected people.

Thoubal District Development and Demand Council flayed the Government for not providing any relief material to flood affected people of Wabagai.

A survey team of Council while visiting some areas of the district came across over 800 persons of Wabagai taking refuge at five relief camps awaiting Govt assistance.

As a gesture of solidarity and pity with the suffering of the people, president of Maring Tribe MV Kontham donated Rs 200 to Wabagai Awang Leikai Youth Development Club for expenses in running the camps.

In the relief camp set-up by SSB/VVF at Tentha Heibung several people and animals were vaccinated to prevent spread of water borne diseases.

Relief camps are also opened at Wangjing, Samurou, Iram Siphai, Oinam Sawombung (Imphal barrage) and Kshetrigao by several youth and women organizations in collaboration with medical and veterinary departments and local representatives.

Shree Digambar Jain and Mahila Samaj donated rice, dal, salt and mustard oil for distribution to flood affected people of Lilong area today.

Rice were distributed at Wahengbam under the initiation of local councillor and youth organizations.
