AMUCO pledges to fight challenges ahead

Imphal, June 18 2010: The All Manipur United Clubs' Organisation (AMUCO) today observed the "Unity Day" with a public function at THAU ground, Thangmeiband where many social workers and leaders of various communities and civil organisations spoke.

The Centre's policy to break the territorial boundary of the state to please some sections of the people should be fought with a concerted effort of the people of the state.

"We need to stand united against the Centre's divide and rule policy," president of AMUCO, KT Rehman asserted while addressing the huge gathering.

Challenging the integrity of the state and effort to create disharmony among the different communities of the state is also efforting by some external forces, he said blaming the Central leaders for playing low standard policy in the north east.

AMUCO is challenging the double and low standard policy of the government of India where they do caste based politics.

Central leaders are trying to infiltrate their caste base politics in the northeastern region of the country having no such caste system that is, looking down upon one caste by another Rehman alleged.

There is no caste system in the northeastern region.

People in this region are those having their own indigenous culture and tradition with indigenous system of worshipping.

India as the largest democratic country should not indulge in such caste base politics in the northeastern region for building up disunity among the different communities, he warned.

The demand for Greater Nagaland and the talk between NSCN(IM) and GoI is not supported by all section of the people.

It is not a demand getting supports from all tribes under the so called Naga, he said.

Former president of the Kuki Inpi Manipur, Poucha Gangte said that only those who wanted to take political advantage wanted to break the territorial integrity of Manipur.

"We need to build up unity among us to defeat such forces" .

Muivah, the NSCN(IM) leader, is among those who hope of getting political advantage after he and his followers committed crime against Kuki in its ethnic cleansing drive in the hill areas of the state.

Naga brothers who wanted to live in Nagaland can go and settle there but they could not take away an inch of Manipur territorial, he demanded.

Professor of MU political Science, prof Dhanabir Laishram said the external forces exerted to the unity of the people of the state can only be defeated by the united strength of the people of the state.

Now time has come to know by all section of the society the cultural injustice to the people of the region by the Centre.

Everybody should keep in mind that Delhi wants to break the territorial boundary of the state at any cost.

They are examining the patience of the people of the state, he said.

"If there happens communal clash at this juncture, it will be similar digging out own grave by us," he said reiterating that Delhi is remaining watch even though economic blockade entered two months to examine the tolerance of the people of the state.

The economic blockade, on the other hand, should be a lesion to be taught by the people of the state that "We can survived with out own resources," he observed elaborately talking on how the Cuban survived even as economic blockade of USA to Cuba since 1965 still continuing.

Instead of reducing to an underdeveloped country, now Cuba is among the fast developing countries of the globe since the imposition of economic sanction of the USA, he said saying that "We should teach a lesson from Cuba for our survival" .

He also lauded driver communities who are confronting with all odds while plying the highways day and night for procuring the essential items in the state saying that they are the real "heroes" of the people.

When, they faced difficulties and harassment enough to bear as a man, still they willingly came out with the view that they will procured the essential items on the NH-53 which is in awful state due to long negligence by authorities for the sake of the people of the state, he added.

Representatives of different communities, civil organisations from both hill and valley areas also talked in the meeting.
