Imphal, March 18: Coming out strongly against the killing non-locals, migrant workers by unidentified gunmen over the past 48 bhours, North East Support Centre and Helpline, New Delhi has categorically stated that killing of innocent persons is not acceptable and the State Government should take up necessary measures immediately to ensure the safety of the non-locals.

Talking to The Sangai Express from Delhi, spokesman of the NE Support Centre and Helpline Modhuchandra expressed serious concern over the possible fallout of such senseless killings not only on Manipuri people living in the National capital and other parts of the country but also on other people from the North East region.

It has the potential of flaring up hatred against the North East people as a whole, Modhuchandra said, adding that killing of innocent people is unacceptable and should be stopped at once.

CPM flays: Describing as unfortunate the gunning down of many non-Manipuris since yesterday, the Communist Party of India (Marxist), Manipur State Committee has strongly condemned the indiscriminate killings.

Asserting that such an act is inhuman, the CPM cautioned that the act of cowardice will only lead to erosion of cordiality between different communities especially when the public and the State Government in particular have been making tremendous efforts to invite/attract tourists to Manipur.

Moreover, the CPM construed that such killings clearly reflect breakdown/inefficiency of law and order mechanisms of the State Government and urged the authorities concerned to take up all possible steps to ensure public security.
