Imphal, November 12 2009: Notwithstanding the efforts of the Government which included deployment of security personnel around educational institutions to ensure resumption of normal class, the rate of class attendance still remains at the bottom.

Despite the call and efforts of the Government to resume classes from November 9, almost 80 percent of students studying in schools/colleges located across the four valley districts including Jiribam sub-division have been staying away from schools/colleges.

Although many schools and colleges were found opened today, no or very little students could be observed in the premises of the educational institutions.

Principals and Headmasters of many schools/colleges said that more than 80 percent of their students are yet to return to their classrooms because of the continuing impasse between the two sides.

Consequent upon the acts of arson committed against some educational institutions in the past few days, some schools/colleges which re-opened a few days back were found shut down today.
