Counting agents threatened

Imphal, May 10: Following intimidation to some of the counting agents of the Outer Parliamentary Constituency by unidentified persons in the last few days, many complaints have been raised stating that most of the counting agents will not be able to come to the counting centres on May 19 for security reasons, disclosed Returning Officer Y Surchandra while interacting with mediapersons today.

It may be noted here that counting of votes for the Outer Manipur Parliamentary Constituency will be held on May 19 in all the dist HQs.

On account of the threat issued to the counting agents, some of the candidates have even proposed the shifting of the counting centres of Tamenglong, Ukhrul and Chandel dist to Imphal for security reasons, added Surchandra.

He also informed that a meeting of the candidates would be held at the RO office at Lamphelpat at 10.30 am tomorrow to deliberate on the new developments following the threats issued to counting agents and proposal of the candidates for shifting the counting centres to Imphal.

He also said that a report of the meeting would be sent to the Chief Electoral Officer immediately after the meeting.
