Tamenglong, May 09 2010: People in Tamenglong district are facing hardship as scarcity of food has severely hit them due to prolonged economic blockade imposed along National Highways and suspension of passenger bus services from Imphal to Tamenglong after the State Government announced the ADC election in the hill districts of Manipur.

The situation worsened with the violent standoff at Mao Gate over the proposed visit of NSCN-IM lader Th Muivah to Manipur as bandh and general strike followed one after another.

All shops and rice stores have remained completely empty for the past one week.

The only FCS godwon in Tamenglong has been empty for over a month.

The only petrol pump at Tamenglong district headquarter has also dried up.

No diesel and petrol are available in Tamenglong district HQs for the last one week.

Prices of other food items have also soared giving a serious blow to the common people.

It is worth mentioning here that the JAC of Unwanted ADC Act under the banner of UNC and ANSAM launched an indefinite blockade along NH 39 and NH 53 since April 12 demanding cancellation of the ADC elections until the ADC Act 2008 is amended.
