Imphal, May 09: Maximum efforts are being made to take custody of suspects involved in the kidnapping and subsequent murder of the two Don Bosco students from the NSCN (IM), said Chief minister O Ibobi Singh.

"I have even put pressure upon a team of officials from the Union home ministry today to ensure that the culprits be handed over to the state," the CM said in response to a call attention motion raised by O Joy and RK Anand of the MPP in the assembly today.

Taking grim note of state Government's inability to get the suspects from the outfit's camp at Hebron near Dimapur, Joy suggested sending a state delegation to exert pressure to the centre on the same line.

The chief minister, also in charge of Home portfolio, said owing to pressure from families of the victims against initiating rescue missions apprehending undesired consequences, the police were handicapped in the initial days.

The families did not intimated State agents when they reportedly handed over Rs 5 lakhs to the kidnappers on December 19 at Kanglatongbi.

The State police force, nevertheless, launched rescue operations from December 20 onwards at different suspected locations along with personnel of the Assam Rifles and India Reserve Battalion, he mentioned.

Having noticed that some suspects are in the custody of NSCN (IM) at Hebron camp, the government moved the court after which the latter issued non bailable warrants of arrest against two kilonsers of the outfit for concealing the culprits, added O Ibobi.

The court also issued the same warrants against two suspects, he said while informing that Nagaland police have failed to execute the warrants.

He said a Special Task Force headed by Deputy Inspector General of Police M Karnajit Singh has been formed to crack the case.

Moving his motion Joy opined that harbouring the criminals in the IM's custody violates ground rules of the ceasefire.

"I don't think such rules allow harbouring accused persons in the outfit's camp at Hebron," the MPP legislator said and added that report of another prime suspect namely Adai escaping from Hebron is inexplicable.

The murder of the two kids has arised many questions also, he said and elaborated on his contention by asking whether the tiny tots were kidnapped for ransom only or due to enmity between the kidnappers and the kids' parents or for both cases.

RK anand said tragic end in all recent case of kidnapping reflects lack of commitment from the govt in addition to exposing poor intelligence network of the police.

"If the NSCN (IM) keep on harbouring these criminals then the centre, Manipur and Nagaland governments are equally responsible," he said.

Hriini Hubert and Muheni Martin were kidnapped on December 14, 2007 for ransom and their skeletal remains found on March 27 near Senapati district headquarters.
