Action deemed fit by the party will be taken up if the candidates were found to have signed the declaration, he said.

The UNC statement released yesterday had mentioned that Naga candidates of the party were also signatories to the declaration.

A total of 47 Naga candidates of several political parties had signed the pledge.

Swamy termed the allegations that the State Assembly was dissolved and PR imposed in the State at the behest of BJP as false propaganda and baseless.

He said that the BJP Government has set up a separate department for the development of the North East States including Manipur.

For development, peace is necessary.

Replying to a query, Swamy said the contention of the Congress leaders that BJP was working hand in glove with insurgent groups is false propaganda.

There are also instances where BJP candidates have been intimidated and threatened, he added.

He evaded a direct reply when asked about the reasons for declaring valley insurgent groups as terrorist groups under the Prevention of Terrorism Ordinance (POTO) while the same was not applied to hill insurgent groups but said that NSCN (IM) is undergoing peace talks with the Centre.

The door is open for peace talks to all underground groups, Swamy said.
