Three apprehended in girls trafficking case

Imphal, October 04: Three local agents reportedly involved in selling off five girls from Manipur and Assam to a night club in Malaysia have been arrested by police.

Moreover it has also been established that the trafficking network involved some individuals based at Guwahati and Kolkata.

Acting on a specific tip-off that local agents involved in trafficking the girls were staying at Imphal, the three agents were pulled up after conducting raids at their respective houses, informed a source in Tamenglong District Police.

A police team led by SDPO L Raghui pulled up the local agents on October 2 and 3.It has been learnt that the local agents after communicating with those based at Guwahati and Kolkata took part in scheming to take away the girls outside the country, informed the source.

Claiming that identities of those human trafficking agents based at Guwahati and Kolkata have also been established, the police source informed that Guwahati and Kolkata police will be informed about them for arrest after finding some more details about these agents.

He further hinted that the human trafficking case may be handed over to CBI.

The local agents apprehended by Tamenglong district police have been identified as Manshy Kamei (26) of Namkaolong but staying at Dimdaijang Kabui village, Imphal East, Asimbung Pamei (30) of Gadailong and Agatha alias Aguina (38) of Langol Tarung, Thangmeiband.

While Mansy Panmei and Asimbung Pamei were produced before CJM Tamenglong yesterday and remanded to police custody till October 9, Aguina was also produced before Court today which remanded him to police custody till October 8.The apprehended agents are being interrogated.

Earlier, police have already arrested one Philip Gangmei of Sibilong in connection with the same case.
