Imphal, March 04: The Central Bureau of Investigation, which has been asked to investigate the kidnapping and subsequent murder of Lungnila Elizabeth has got in touch with the Special Investigation Team, which was constituted to probe the case, and asked for the progress report of the investigation.

Speaking to The Sangai Express, DGP AK Parashar today said that the CBI has asked the SIT to submit its findings so that it can register the case.

The DGP said that the CBI sought the progress report after he personally got in touch with the CBI's headquarters.

Thereafter the CBI North East region stationed at Guwahati approached the SIT for the progress report so that it may register the case.

The DGP said that the report sought by the CBI has already been despatched and added that process is underway to register the case.

To a question, the DGP said that the State Police Department will continue with its own course of investigation until the case is formally registered by the CBI.

On the mounting accusations against the security personnel of killing suspects after capturing them in fake encounters, the DGP said that he has no knowledge of any fake encounters and added that the only thing he knows is that arms and ammunition are always recovered from the slain persons in such cases.

The DGP however said that the IGP Thanthuam has started probing the case of Md Rahman of Thoubal Moijin who was killed amid contradictory claims by the family members and the security personnel.

On the latest attack at the Thoubal residence of Chief Minister O Ibobi, the DGP said the attack could be connected to the forthcoming Lok Sabha election.

The attack could be some sort of a warning in connection with the Lok Sabha election, said the DGP.

The top police officer further said that the attacks on the residence of the Chief Minister and some other Ministers could be the handiwork of some UG cadres and sympathizers.

On the security arrangements taken up by the State Police Department for the coming Parliamentary polls, the DGP said that Additional DGP Y Joykumar has been appointed as the Nodal Officer to oversee the security arrangements.

A number of senior IPS officers will also be requisitioned to ensure a free and fair election, he added.

The police chief further said that the State Govt has already approached the Union Home Ministry to deploy 200 companies of Central security force to ensure the smooth conduct of the two phased polls on April 20 and 26.No rooms will be given for any anti-social activities to disrupt the smooth conduct of the polls, he said.

Ever since the Election Commission of India notified the election dates, all the senior police officers and SPs have been meeting regularly to ensure a trouble free election, informed the DGP.

Communication tools as well as vehicles are kept on the ready to enable the police discharge their duties effectively, added Parashar.

To a question, the DGP said that till date no underground outfit has called a boycott of the Parliamentary election.

If such a boycott call is given by any militant group, the security personnel will put forward its best foot to neutralize the designs of the armed groups, said the police chief.

When the DGP was reminded of the free run that some militant groups are believed to have had in the hill constituencies in the past elections, Parashar said that no room will be given to any armed groups to influence the outcome of the election and stressed that the law enforcing agencies will be on their toes to thwart any such attempts.
