Imphal, July 02 2010: Along with electing the leaders and deputy leaders of the Congress counsellors who have been elected to the Tamenglong and Churachandpur District Councils today, the newly elected leaders are all set to make their claim for formation of Tamenglong District Council to the Deputy Commissioner tomorrow.

The leaders and deputy leaders of the Congress counsellors in the remaining Autonomous District Councils of Chandel, Senapati and , Ukhrul, Sadar Hills are likely to be elected tomorrow.

The leaders and deputy leaders of Congress counsellors in respect of Tamenglong and Churachandpur ADCs were elected unanimously after several rounds of meetings at Congress Bhavan here today.

Accordingly, Golmei Soihem Haomei who has been elected uncontested from Nungnang Constituency and Humaliabou who has been elected from Khunphung Constituency have been respectively elected the leader and deputy leader in respect of Tamenglong District Council.

In respect of Churachandpur District Council, V Langkhanpau Guite who has been elected from Tuivai Constituency and Demmnang Haokip who has been elected from Leimatak Constituency have been respectively elected as the leader and the deputy leader.

It is said that inclusive of the two Government nominees, Congress party has 19 counsellors in Tamenglong District Council and 20 counsellors in Churachandpur District Council.

Talking to The Sangai Express, 60-year old Golmei Soihem Haomei informed that since he has been chosen as the leader of the counsellors, in the capacity of the chairman he would be making a claim to the Deputy Commissioner tomorrow to form the Tamenglong District Council.

He further informed after the formation of the Council as the chairman, his first priority would be to amend the existing ADC Act so as to increase the financial power to the ADC.

Another area that he would pay special attention would be facilitating more specialised training programmes for the skilled craftspersons in the villages, he added.
