Imphal, July 31: A team of 5th IRB personnel who were on duty at Kwakeithel Bazar were fired at by two unidentified persons who came on a Honda Activa at around 8 pm today.

Even as the unidentified persons fired 4/5 rounds, there is no report of any casualty.

According to information received from the spot, nine personnel of 5th IRB attached to Kwakeithel police outpost were on frisking duty at Kwakeithel Bazar this evening.

At about 8 pm, a black coloured Honda Activa came from the northern direction.

As the IRB signalled to stop, the two unidentified persons riding the Activa fired 4/5 rounds towards the IRB personnel.

The duo managed to escape towards Kwakeithel Haorokchambi road.

It is reported that the IRB personnel did not fire a single round.

Police have registered a case in connection with the incident, informed a police source.

UG cadre held : One KCP cadre identified as Thingbaijam Somorjit alias Gogo (28) s/o Th Surjit of Heirangoithong Maibam Leikai was apprehended by a combined team of Imphal East commandos and troops of 32 Assam Rifles from Khongman Mangjil at about 6.30 am today, informed a release issued by SP Imphal East Th Radheshyam.
